Central Pacific Railroad

Shasta, California was the Gold Rush “Queen City of the North” — the last wagon stop before the northern mines — until the railroad bypassed it in 1872. Today its brick ruins and restored 1861 courthouse are preserved as Shasta State Historic Park.
